Darren Star’s New York Loft
While reading the May 2019 issue of Elle Decor, I came across an article about the New York City Loft owned by Darren Star. He is an American producer, director, and writer of film and television, best known for creating the television series Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, and Sex and the City.
This loft is such a wonderful example of Contemporary Style.
Living Room. Artwork by Jose Dávila in the living articulates the circle motif running throughout the loft. Custom sofa is in a Chapas Textiles fabric. Vintage cardboard chairs are by Frank Gehry, and the 1960s chair is by Poul Kjaerholm. The Willy Rizzo cocktail table is topped by a Merete Rasmussen sculpture, the lamp is by Serge Mouille.
Living Room. The artwork W.M. 1995 by Richard Serra anchors one end of the living room and harmonizes perfectly with the room’s gray, black, and white palette
Lounge. The sofa is by Zanotta, the chairs are from Cassina, the cocktail table is custom, and the stool is by Michel Boyer. The 1970 Lorenzo Burchiellaro mirror is from Hemisphere Gallery, the custom rug is by V’Soske, and the artwork is by Richard Misrach.
Dining Area. Exposed limed-brick walls are a subtle reminder that this is a city loft. A blue Murano vessel by Laura de Santillana adds a delicate touch of color. The table is by Poul Kjaerholm, and the Saarinen chairs are in a Maharam fabric. Dishes are by MUD Australia, and the glasses are by CB2.
Master Bedroom. The master bed has a headboard in a Cowtan & Tout fabric. The sconces are by Gubi, and the nightstands are by Room & Board.
Master Bedroom Sitting Area. The sofa is by Zanotta, and the chairs and Charlotte Perriand bookshelf are from Cassina. The vintage cocktail table is by Jacques Dumond.
